I am a fan of Bak Kut Teh mainly because of the soup. The peppery taste of the soup base always tastes so shiok when it goes down your throat!
Recently, the dad introduced me to Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh at Rangoon road and brought me and the BF to try.
We ordered a bowl of Signature Spare Ribs Soup, Spare and Pork Ribs Combo Soup, Blanched Pig Liver & Kidney Combo and Tau Kua Pok.
Must try: Signature Spare Ribs Soup
If you're deciding between the Signature Spare Ribs Soup and the Pork Ribs, I will recommend you to get the Spare Ribs Soup because the meat is much tender while the meat of the pork ribs are tougher.
I love how peppery the soup base tasted. Soup is refillable. Service is prompt (I went there at 4pm on a weekend and there was not much people). They will refill the soup when they see that you have drank most of it.
The peppery taste is strong but not overwhelming. Some people might find the soup too peppery for their liking (quite subjective) but I love my soup base peppery. Very shiok!
I did not touch the pig liver & kidney combo (except for the soup) as I am unable to appreciate the taste of pigs' internal organs. According to BF, it was not bad. Soup was so-so.
According to the dad, Ng Ah Sio deserves a rating of 6.5/10. For me, good bak kut tehs are hard to find. I will give it a rating of 7/10. Will I go back again? Yes!
Founder Bak Kut Teh is also near the vicinity. Apparently, it is less popular than Ng Ah Sio. I have not tried it yet but will find the chance to do so when I am around the vicinity!
