Are you a fan of Doraemon? If you are, you must not miss the 100 Doraemon Secret Gadgets expo at City Square, Johor Bahru.
Who is Doraemon?
Doraemon is a blue robot cat from the future (from the Japanese animate TV series, Doraemon). He has a magical pocket that allows him to conjure up special gadgets, tools, and potions.
The first thing that greeted us when we entered the expo was this pink door. The significance of this pink door (aka Anywhere door) is that it can transport people to any side of the universe! Yes, that's me about to step into the world of Doraemons.
100 life-sized Doraemons figurines for us to explore~
Do you know that Doraemon used to be yellow? Now I know (and the story behind yellow Doraemon with ears is TOO CUTE and.. kinda funny). After getting into an accident (whereby his ears got bitten off), Doraemon cried so terribly that his body paint got washed off by his tears.
making of Doraemon
That's the story of how Doraemon became blue. With no ears.
Clifford and many life-sized doraemons.
If you're wondering why there are so many doraemons in this space, that's because in this exhibition there is a total of 100 doraemons holding 100 different special gadgets. They come with accompanying captions that will explain the gadget that each Doraemon is holding.
This one says, "With this pencil, even the hardest problem can be solved." If only this special pencil can be bought right??
There are also photo opportunities at the photo props area where you can pose with the various secret gadgets. The magic of the parallela umbrella is that when 2 people stand under it side by side for 5 minutes, the person on the left will fall in love with the person on the right.
They have also recreated classical Doraemon scenes, which means.. more photo opportunities! Imagine yourself inside the scene and be creative with your poses ;) I guess the role that I am playing in the photo below is a.. photobomber lol.
This has got to be my favourite recreation - The wedding of Nobita (the protagonist of the Doraemon series) and Shizuka. This section is so gorgeous. The wedding is complete with furnishings of rows of white benches beautifully decorated with lovely pink flowers.
Nobita's friend, Gian (who always steal Doraemon's gadgets but misuse them). You can pretty much infer about Gian's character from this setup haha.
Besides the exhibition, you can check out their carnival-like games to win Doraemon plushies.etc. You can get original Doraemon merchandises such as soft toys, clothes, and souvenirs over there as well.
There is also a Doraemon cafe at the top level of City Square Mall. Just beside the exhibition, they have a small food and drink kiosk where you can get Doraemon snacks (such as the memory bread or everyone's favourite dorayaki) or drinks in their special Doraemon tumbler. Too cute!
I'm resisting the urge to post the many photos that I had taken because that's for you to go and experience the expo yourself!
The 100 Doraemon Secret Gadgets Expo will be happening till 4 January 2015. They are open on weekdays and weekends from 10am-10pm.

How to go to City Square Mall at Johor Bahru?
Take the MRT and alight at Kranji Station. Take bus 170 to the woodlands checkpoint. The bus fare is less than $1.50 and after you clear the checkpoint, continue taking 170 to proceed to the mall with no additional charges. It takes less than an hour for me to reach City Square and is very convenient to go via public transport.
